Foreigners will be targeted in part of the new health cuts

The Minister for the Hacienda and Public Administration, Cristóbal Montoro, has said today Tuesday, after the release of the health and education ten billion € cut Press Release yesterday, that the reform of the health service will be ready in two weeks. He said they would be refining what basic services would be available. Once again he indicated that higher earners could be expected to pay more for medicines and drugs, although this suggestion was denied in Government just last Sunday. He announced that a list prepared for the regions on where to cut the health service would be given to them in two weeks. Speaking on Radio Nacional this morning, he also highlighted what he described as ‘the abuses of the foreigners’ of different Spanish medical services. ‘We must avoid the foreigners abusing the Health Service in Spain’, he said, continuing ‘There are Europeans who come to Spain to use services which are not available in their own respective countries’. He said that the reforms would be explained by Minister for Health, Ana Mato, when they are completed and contrasted with the regions, which have the job of applying them and deciding. Meanwhile the Valencia Generalitat has announced that it wants to charge national tourists from outside their catchment area for health care.
