Spain's first cloned fighting bull begins a new life as a stud

‘Got’, Spain’s first cloned fighting bull, arrived in Utrera, Sevilla, on Tuesday to start a new life as a stud, on the farm ‘El Toruño’, owned by Alfonso Guardiola, where his father, the pedigree stud ‘Vasito’, lived until his death.

Got was born in Palencia last year, after a team of experts inserted DNA tissue from his sire into cows’ eggs and the resulting embryos were then implanted into surrogate mothers. A Friesian cow gave birth to the 24.7 kg little bull on May 18 2010.

Canal Sur reports that the project led by the Valencia Veterinary Research Foundation cost 28,000 €.
