Iberian Lynx killed by motorist in Doñana
An Iberian Lynx has been found dead in Huelva province, run over by a motorist on a road within the boundaries of Doñana.
The animal’s body was spotted by a family driving along the A-481 between Hinojos and Chucena, close to the Arroyo de Pilas, on Monday night, who reported their find to the Civil Guard.
The dead animal is understood to be an adult male which was part of the Doñana population of Iberian lynx. The Junta de Andalucía’s environmental department indicates that speed bumps and other measures to reduce the risk from traffic to this threatened species are in place on the road where it died.
This latest death means that twelve Iberian Lynx have now been killed by motorists since August 2006, which El País reports makes it the leading cause of death for the species.
