The high temperatures over the weekend saw an early campo fire on Sunday, but the lack of wind helped in the control of the blaze which finally affected 1,488 hectares at Benicolet, Valencia.

The fire was brought under control at midday by a team of 450 fire-fighters who worked through the early hours of Sunday. 24 planes and helicopters were used on Sunday.

Firefighters were continuing to dampen down the ground on Sunday night, but the region remains on high alert for forest fires.

There was a smaller fire also over the weekend in Benigembla, Alicante where some 96 hectares were affected.
