Building licence application in for Spain's first 7-star hotel

Town Hall in Almuñécar has confirmed that the promoters of what will be Spain’s first 7-star hotel have this week handed in their application for the building licence and have presented the designs for the project.

The project comes from Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, under their Angsana brand, which has named its Almuñécar complex planned for Peñón del Lobo, between Marina del Este and Cotobro, ‘Bahía Fenicia’.

It’s to be built in three phases, with phase I – the hotel and 50 private apartments – due for completion in 2013. The luxury apartments will be up to 500 m2, including a private pool on the terrace, with services offered including a professional chef to cook for you in your home.

Almuñécar Town Hall said Phases II and III will be under construction in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

The project, which will be presented to the public in Almuñécar’s Casa de Cultura on Monday April 25 at 8pm, will create 250 jobs in the construction phase, and around 600 staff employed by the complex when it is up and running.

The Town Hall noted in the press release that Spanish legislation currently only allows for a maximum hotel rating of a ’5-star Superior Luxury’ category. It’s understood that the promoter has applied for a special dispensation to allow the Bahía Fenicia to be recognised as a 7-star facility.
