Former Gibraltar workers demand €200m

Former Gibraltar workers demand €200m | International | News | The Largest English Language Newspapers in Spain: "SPANISH nationals who formerly worked in Gibraltar are demanding €200m in compensation. Between 1943 and 1969, some 12,000 people worked in Gibraltar, and a few years ago they protested for the revaluation of their pensions, and now they want back the money which they had to pay in taxes, which after exchange rates were applied, amounted to almost 50 per cent of their salary.

An association in La Linea for Pensioners Formerly Employed in Gibraltar is backing the move, which affects some 5,000 pensioners and descendants.

Last year, they sent letters to the Bank of Spain, explaining their situation, and now they have received a reply inviting them to start proceedings as a group."
