More than 600 mass Civil War graves located in Andalucía

AndaluciaMore than 600 mass Civil War graves located in Andalucía: "After seven years of work, the Junta de Andalucía has concluded its work to draw up a map of the mass graves which contain the remains of victims who were killed by the forces of General Franco during Spain’s Civil War and the first of the post-war years.

The map was presented in Sevilla on Tuesday, and lists 614 mass graves in 359 municipalities. They contain the remains of more than 47,000 people, only half of whom have been identified. EFE reports that many will remain anonymous, either because quicklime was scattered over the bodies or because there are no living relatives for DNA testing.

While most of the graves are in western Andalucía, the largest is in Málaga, in the provincial capital’s San Rafael cemetery, where excavations concluded earlier this year."
